This paper analyzes the causal relationship between the banking system development and the real estate market in Vietnam from 2004:Q3 to 2018:Q4, with the use of the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model as the analysis method. In Vietnam, there is no empirical study on this issue. Therefore, the paper is the first empirical evidence for the relationship between the banking system development and the real estate market in Vietnam. The research results show that the banking system development (measured through the domestic credit to the private sector) and the real estate market had a positive causal relationship in both short and long terms. In addition, the paper found a statistically significant impact of the global financial crisis on the banking system development and the real estate market in Vietnam, which is a new discovery compared with previous studies.

The purpose of our research is to study the impact of financial crisis on Risk premium evolution for a set of emerging countries of MENA (Middle East and North Africa), giving special attention to the appreciation of the local risk premium in addition to the currency risk premium through the study of the dynamics of the financial integration under two assumptions: perfect integration and partial segmentation. At the methodological level, we test a conditional version of the international model of the financial assets ICAPM of De initially proposed by Adler and Dumas 1983 [Adler, M., & Dumas, B. (1983). International portfolio choice and corporation finance: A synthesis. The Journal of Finance, 38(3), 925-984.]. Our analysis is based on the conditional model of regime change of Bekaert and Harvey (1995) [Bekaert, G., & Harvey, C. R. (1995). Time‐varying world market integration. The Journal of Finance, 50(2), 403-444.], we follow the econometric modeling using the Kalman filter and the Markov regime-switching model with variable transition probabilities.

This paper investigates the contribution of index of the speculative pressure to the persistence of currency crises by identifying the determinants of high persistence in the exchange market pressure index for twenty countries affected by crisis. The Exact Local Whittle model is utilized to identify the high persistence of crisis. Our results show the persistence of the currency crisis.

After financial crisis in 2008, the effect of crisis spread in the world. Many countries were affected quickly and others slowed in a particular mechanism. Using data of TEPIX from Tehran Stock Exchange and DJI from New York stock Exchange as the main indexes of these two markets, this paper reported strong evidence of TEPIX’s dependency on DJI after the crisis in a four-week delay. The index level series were non-stationary; therefore, we employed cointegration analysis and error correction vector autoregressions (VAR) techniques to model the interdependencies. To find the best lag time we used a heuristic method and the results surprisingly were the same as the result of applying a VAR model. The results support the hypothesis that financial stress was transmitted from the U.S to Iran primarily through trade and price channels.

In some decades, capitalism countries have suffered from financial crises and the financial crises have created economic recession started from the country of origin and distributed to other counties. The purpose of this paper is to study the global financial crisis effects on the stock price as well as operating profit of some listed companies in Tehran Stock Exchange(TSE). This research shows the difference between operating profit and the price of the products of the firms before and after the global financial crisis. The aim of this research is to study the effects of the global financial crisis on 133 TSE firms over the period 2004-2011 by considering two periods: Before/after crisis, i.e. 2004-2008 and 2008-2011. The results of testing different hypotheses show that there was a significant difference between the operating profit and the stock price of the firms before and after the global financial crisis on the different industries of the Iranian companies.

An integrated risk management is a process, which enables banks to measure and manage all risks, simultaneously. The recent turbulent chaos on banking industry has increase the relative importance of risk management, more than before. This paper investigates the relationship between credit risk and liquidity risk among Iranian banks. The proposed study includes all private and governmental banks as population over the period 2005-2012. The results Pearson correlation has disclosed a positive and meaningful relationship between credit and liquidity risks. Bank size also impacts on two mentioned risk factors but we there seems to be no relationship between financial chaos and type of ownership with risk factors.

This paper investigates the dynamics of the NASDAQ topology before, during, and after 2008 financial crisis. First, multiresolution analysis by virtue of wavelet transform is employed to denoise each NASDAQ sector return series. Second, the correlation matrix of sectors is built and analyzed in each time period to view comovements of sectors. Third, hierarchical clustering trees are constructed in each time period to find out how the structure of the NASDAQ market evolves through time. Our results suggest that interrelationships between sectors become stronger in times of crisis and especially in post-crisis period. In addition, some markets tend to form the same cluster in all time periods; for instance the Industrial and Bank sectors and the Telecommunication and Computer sectors. However, the general topology of the NASDAQ market has been considerably changed over periods. In sum, the complex structure of the NASDAQ market is dynamic and is more integrated after 2008 financial crisis. This result indicates that there are less diversification opportunities in the post-crisis period in comparison with pre-crisis period. These empirical findings are important for the development of subsequent portfolio strategies.

This paper examines the determinants of banks’ performance in emerging economies. Sustainable growth of emerging economies depends on the financial performance of their banks’. The determinants of banks’ performance are, therefore, analyzed through panel econometric techniques over the crisis period of 2008-2014 using data of the top 50 banks from the 10 sampled emerging economies. Both banks’ specific and macroeconomic variables are considered in the analysis. Results reveal that macroeconomic variables like GDP and inflation are significant forces behind high Return on Assets (ROA) in emerging economies banks’, however, both negatively influenced the Net Interest Margins (NIM). Among the banks’ specific variables high profitability and NIM are related to high operating costs. This shows that expenses are managed properly in these economies. Further, leverage has a positive impact on both (ROA) and (NIM).While reserve requirement has negatively and significantly influence both profitability and net interest margins, which indicates the prominence of central bank’s monetary policy by considering the importance of liquidity for emerging economies commercial banks in economic recovery phase.
