This research attempts to investigate the technological, organizational, and environmental aspects that impact the banking industry's use of business intelligence (BI). In addition, the present research aims to quantify the effect of business intelligence adoption on bank performance to contribute to the current understanding of business intelligence adoption. Upon the completion of the sample verification procedure, 232 samples are collected. Throughout the research investigation, the SEM software is used to process all the acquired data. The study's findings indicate that TOE had a direct and beneficial effect on the adoption of BI systems by banks. Based on the results of the study, the researchers believe that decision-maker and managers would define all activities, responsibilities, and work processes using business intelligence platforms in order to increase their organization's versatility and performance.

Despite the importance of risk management in the banking sector, little research has been devoted to the Ara-bian settings. This paper investigates the effect of risk management practices (i.e., understanding risk and risk management, risk analysis and assessment, risk identification, risk monitoring, and credit risk analysis) on Jordanian commercial banks’ performance. The study utilizes a quantitative approach by obtaining survey data from risk managers and employees in risk management departments (n=23) of commercial banks. A partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied on the data and the results showed that the components of risk management practices had positive and significant impacts on the performance of banks. In sum, the findings corroborate existing work in the Western settings and underscore the importance of risk management in the Arabian banking context.

The study aimed to explore the relationship between corporate governance (i.e., tasks and responsibilities of the Board of Directors, disclosure and transparency, shareholders’ rights and fair treatment of shareholders, and audit and internal control) and bank performance. Data were collected using a questionnaire distributed to a sample consisting of managers of commercial banks in the northern region in Jordan. The study found a significant and positive relationship between corporate governance and bank performance. Particularly, the study pointed out two principles (i.e., tasks and responsibilities of the Board of Directors, and audit and internal control) were positively related to bank performance, while there were no significant relationships between the other two principles (i.e., disclosure and transparency as well as shareholders’ rights and fair treatment of shareholders). It was concluded that corporate governance is very critical for enhancing bank performance. Additionally, commercial banks should pay more attention to all principles of corporate governance.

This study explores the impact of liquidity risk on Bank performance through a comparative study between conventional and Islamic banks in the Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA). Bank Size, Capital adequacy ratio, liquidity Gap and Return on Assets are used as independent variables and the Bank Age, Inflation Rate and Growth Rate of Domestic product are used as macro-economic variables and the dependent variable is liquidity risk. The methodological choice is the generalized method of moments (GMM). We used a sample of 10 Islamic banks and 25 conventional banks in the MENA region during the period of 2006-2018. The results show various impacts of these variables on liquidity risk in both banks. We also find that the rise in CAR in Islamic banks and conventional banks does not influence liquidity risk. The logical explanations are that the bank could allocate funds to improve credit and fixed assets.

The main purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of inside debt compensation on bank performance, and identify the determinants of inside debt compensation. Using a sample of thirty European Banks during the period of 2006-2011, this paper presents evidence to support the existing literature that states that debt-based compensations plans have a significant impact on banks’ performance. The results imply that banks rely more on a debt-based compensation as leverage increases. A positive association has also been documented between debt-based compensation usage and both CEO age and bank size. The human capital of CEOs has been found to be negatively related to debt-based compensation. The empirical findings show that there is a significant negative relationship between inside debt compensation and banks' performance. Specifically, CEOs paid with a higher level of inside debt compensation were more likely to engage in lower risk-seeking behavior, such as adopting more conservative policies and investment choices. Thus, inside debt compensation plans can influence the risk-taking of managers, which may have the potential to significantly affect bank performance. Generally, inside debt compensation can reduce risk-shifting problems and lead to behavior which positively impacts debt-holders, as less risk-taking can directly contribute to a lower probability of default. The findings of this paper present important implications for many interested parties throughout the European Union, such as regulators, investors, and standards setters, whose aim is to enhance the soundness of the banking sector.

This study evaluated the relationship between cost and performance yield investment opportunities, cash and financial flexibility bank pays. For this study, a sample of 94 companies from companies that are part of corporate clients BSI was selected using random sampling technique. In addition, to measure the performance, three measures of economic value added, return on assets and return on equity were used. The study evaluated the relationship between cash and the opportunity cost efficiency as well as financial flexibility to invest in BSI over the period 2007-2012. Statistical methods used in this study were panel data regression. Four hypotheses were proposed to achieve the goals and the results showed that the opportunity cost of holding cash investments with financial flexibility and efficiency were inversely associated with financial performance.
